Before having a baby, I have to admit that I didn't really understand Father's Day. In my family, it just felt like a lot of last minute stressing about gifts and finding a venue large enough to accommodate everyone for a breakfast when most of the time would be spent trying to make yourself heard across a noisy cafe. Not really my thing and it all felt very forced.
Now, with my 2 year old in tow, I find that it's an opportunity to step back and say thank you.
So today, on behalf of the mums, I'd like to send a thank you to all the dads out there.
Thank you for rubbing our backs when we were heavily pregnant and telling us we look beautiful when we feel like a beached whale.
Thank you for dragging yourself out of bed at 2am to help with a crying newborn even though all you can really do sometimes is watch us do the feeding.
Thank you for cleaning up more milk spew than I would ever have thought such a tiny little being could create.
Thank you for making us eat dinner when we're too tired to think about doing it ourselves.
Thank you for all the goofiness that makes us and our children smile every single day.
Thank you for those incredibly precious quiet moments when we are all together, just enjoying the miracle that is our family.
It would not be a family without you.
Happy Father's Day.
